Beware of G-flex aplication on Rubber trees


Publishing about G-flex  continued to spoil Rubber trees in Kerala through media. I am worried why Indian Rubber Research Institute is silent on this matter? The imbalance of nutrients within the rubber tree by the application of G-flex or ethylene which is a stimulant will destroy productivity within three years especially in younger trees.

Mr. Nambiar said G- Flex would be a boon for Kerala which already has a productivity of 1879 kg per hectare per year, the highest in the world. The state’s remarkable achievement is due to the breeding of precocious clones coupled with judicious application of conventional tapping techniques and good field practices. Rubber farms cover 6 lakh hectares in Kerala, yielding an annual output of 800,000 tonnes. However, the scarcity of land for augmentation of rubber farms impose serious limitations on further improvement of productivity.

G-FLEX is a stimulation technique which uses ethylene gas as a stimulant supplied directly to the laticeferous tissue of the rubber tree immediately after the installation of an inflatable and collapsible container. This technique allows tapping to be carried out 48 hours after the first installation and gassing, and 24 hours in subsequent gassings. G-FLEX combines both the stimulation concepts of slow release but continuous supply of gaseous stimulan and intermittent gassing.

My request to Indian Rubber Growers.

Dear farmers beware of these agricultural Scientists who are against sustainability and farmers.  The above mentioned invention have to be implemented firstly in Malaysia and to bring the average productivity above Indian productivity. Everybody know that stimulant like ethephon will produce more latex from the rubber trees. The after effects will be harmful to rubber trees. Balanced nutrient is a remedy to increase productivity not stimulant.

On 23rd August a media news was available that a Minister of Kerala to launch this technology to the market. If any item like it have to be approved by the Indian Rubber Research Institute before implementing. Ethylene is a gas produces from the stimulant like ethephon. As a result of the application of ethephon brown bast is occurring on maximum rubber trees. The carbohydrates are the input to prepare latex by the photosynthesis, respiration and food storage by spliting cork cambium as phelloderm with the help of lenticells. One who studied botany they can say about the secondary thickening of dicot stem and the importance of Magnesium. Magnesium is the metallic constituent of chlorophyll to produce carbohydrates.

New technology to stimulate rubber growth

With the tie-up, Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem launched the G-Flex technology here on Thursday. He said, the new technology would help increase rubber output in Kerala by 2.5 lakh tonnes per annum valued at Rs 2,000 crore.

    I fail to understand why scientists would be against sustainability, and why they would be against farmers. Could you, please, elaborate on this.

    You then state:
    “The above mentioned invention have to be implemented firstly in Malaysia and to bring the average productivity above Indian productivity.”

    I believe you wil find that the invention has been implemented in Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand without adverse affects on the trees. Correct usage of ethylene with the G-Flex product has yet to yield damage to trees, and as an invention of the MRB has gone through extensive testing.

    As a small holder of Rubber plantation I felt the adverse effects of any technolgy to extract latex from trees inliue of balanced input of nutrients. Especially in summer the deficiancy of magnesium is a main reason for low production and in winter excess flow of latex is occuring due to less photosynthesis. Input of balanced nutrients and tapping intervals will be able to maintain productivity and sutainability by avoiding environmental polusions. From my experiences I found that the reason for Brown bast/TPd is due to the non availability of the flow from zylem liquid to full fil phloem vessels in summer and happens necrosis.
    I can’t agree the external aplication of any stimulant as remedy to increase productivity. By a sustainable methord of organic farming in rubber platation will be more profitable for farmers with the help of earthworms. Indian productivity is in top position all over the World. Thus it is necessary to prove the efficiency of G-flex first of all in Malaysia, because the authority of this invention is credible to MRB.

    Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
    I believe the advantages of using G-Flex (I cannot comment on other products) would outweigh any perceived negative effects, social and ecological.
    The d3 tapping system is intended to allow the tree enough time to regenerate, this – coupled with the smaller cut – actually benefits the tree and provides a longer economic life due to decreasing panel use.
    When used with the ten-day gassing period and periodic fertiliser, and I would recommend organic fertilisers, there are no negative effects.
    The Thai Rubber Research Institute has come to the same conclusion after testing the product,as has the MRB.
    I do not wish to dispute your claim of India being in the top position, possibly data an show this.
    As for simpler ways to increase rubber output one only needs to look at upward tapping, which can increase production considerably – through logical biological means.

    I do understand the comments all of you had given. As a person in the industry myself we understand the questions on stimulant as per said.

    I am a small research company and know I had unlock the misery to latex stimulation.

    We do our stimulation in a most targeted and scientific way. Please do consider stimulation for your trees.

    You may not have heard of me in the market as I am a relatively new player but with a proven track record.

    Just to put all your hearts at ease I had run my stimulation programmer for 5years yes 5 years with no ill effects and an increase of yield of 150% to 200%(clone dependent).

    What puzle me is your puzzling fear. There is no G-Flex being placed in Kerala yet but your componding fear seems beyond comprehension. Perhaps if you set yourself to test your inherent fearfactor, I won’t be surprised to see an uncanny accumulated prejudices making it impossible to accept paradigm technology change. Do you seriously know what is lenticells in respect to G-Flex?
